Tibor Navracsics (HUN) was appointed European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Citizenship by the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, on 10/09/2014. Sport is indeed among the prerogatives of Tibor Navracsics, the European Commission confirmed to News Tank on 10/09/2014.

The composition of the European Commission (28 Commissioners) must now be approved by the European Parliament at the meeting scheduled from 20 to 23/10/2014 in Strasbourg (France). If the Parliament accepts this composition, the Commissioners will take office on 01/11/2014 for a five-year term (to 2019).

Tibor Navracsis, 48 years old, should therefore replace the Cypriot Androulla Vassiliou, the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multi-lingualism and Youth since 10/02/2010.

Tibor Navracsics is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Commerce of Hungary since June 2014. He was previously the Minister of Public Administration and Justice from 2010 to 2014.

  • Tibor Navracsics announced his candidacy to the European Commission on his Twitter account on 30/07/2014.
