Twitter: Elon Musk buys the social network for $44bn (€40.9bn)

Elon Musk, founder of US aerospace company SpaceX and CEO of carmaker Tesla, is officially buying Twitter for an estimated $44bn (€40.9bn as of 25/04/2022), announced the social network on 25/04/2022.

"Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential. I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it," said Elon Musk, whose fortune is estimated at $264bn (the world's richest man as of 26/04/2022), via his Twitter account.

"The Twitter board conducted a thoughtful and comprehensive process to assess Elon's proposal with a deliberate focus on value, certainty, and financing.
