Technology: an inclusive marathon held in the metaverse by Degree (deodorant, Unilever)

Degree (Sure in the UK market), an American deodorant brand belonging to the British group Unilever, held the "Degree Metathon" - "the world's first Marathon in the Metaverse" - via the virtual reality platform Decentraland on 26/04/2022. The event highlighted inclusivity and accessibility within virtual worlds.

"60% of people feel that virtual worlds lack inclusivity, and many are calling for more accessibility (according to a study by the Institute of Digital Fashion). However, the Metaverse is still in its early stages of development, which is why Degree Deodorant will partner with Decentraland to help shape the standard of inclusivity and representation in the virtual world," explained the deodorant brand on 25/04/2022.

Users of the Decentraland platform were able to run the 26.2-mile virtual marathon by equipping their avatars with prosthetics, racing blades or wheelchairs to give greater visibility to people with disabilities.
