Chelsea FC: a takeover offer from Englishman Jim Ratcliffe (Ineos), owner of OGC Nice

"We put an offer in (to buy Chelsea FC, Premier League) this morning. We are the only British bid. Our motives are simply to try and create a very fine club in London. We have no profit motive because we make our money in other ways," said the English businessman Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos (chemicals), who already owns OGC Nice (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) and Lausanne-Sport (Credit Suisse Super League), to the British daily The Times on 29/04/2022.

Jim Ratcliffe is said to be in competition with three American consortia (a group of investors led by Martin Broughton, another by Todd Boehly and a third by Stephen Pagliuca) and according to a statement from the businessman the bid is worth £4.25bn: "£2.5bn is committed to the Charitable Trust to support victims of the war, with £1.75bn committed to investment directly into the club over the next 10 years (see full statement below)."
