Italy/Serie A TIM: end of the 3-year term limit for international TV rights contracts

The Lega Serie A and all Italian professional sports leagues can now market their broadcasting rights without any time constraints on international markets, after the Italian Council of Ministers approved changes to the Melandri law, which limited the duration of TV rights contracts abroad to three years, according the Italian League on 05/05/2022.

"Other procedural restrictions have also been removed but the lifting of the contract length stipulation will serve as the main commercial boost to the league. Thanks to this measure, it will be easier for professional leagues and competition organizers to negotiate audiovisual rights in other countries. In the case of Serie A, the higher revenues will also benefit the entire football system, according to the principle of general mutuality already in force," explained the League.
