FIFA: Audit and Compliance Committee member Canover Watson suspended, suspected of corruption

Canover Watson (Cayman Islands), a member of the Audit and Compliance Committee of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), has been temporarily suspended from duty "until further notice," announced the Italian Domenico Scala, chairman of this committee, on16/09/2014.

Canover Watson, also vice-president of the CFU (Caribbean Football Union), is suspected of corruption and money laundering. He was arrested in the Cayman Islands, and then released on bail, on 29/08/2014.

"After a preliminary clarification of the facts of the case and the allegations of the Cayman Island investigating authorities against Canover Watson, no connection with football and/or his role at association level has been established at this stage. The investigation continues," stated Domenico Scala.

"This should not be regarded as routine procedure, because cases like this or of this nature must always be assessed on their individual merits,'' said Domenico Scala.
