France: Thierry Braillard begins consultation with federations and leagues about litigation in sport

The objective of the meeting that was attended by federations of team sports (football, basketball, volley-ball, handball and rugby), by the French national leagues, by the CNOSF (the French Olympic Committee) and by the National Association of the professional sport leagues, as well as by Thierry Braillard, the French Secretary of State for Sport, was to initiate a consultation on a reform to simplify litigation in sport In France. The meeting took place on 15/09/2014 at the Ministry for Sports in Paris.

Patrick Kanner, the French Minister of the City, Youth and Sports, wanted Thierry Braillard to lead this discussion on the issue of litigation in sport.

"Each year, in between sport seasons, issues arise, caused by the composition of the leagues and by the contestation they create. These issues create a climate of legal uncertainty for the clubs and for the organisers, which affect the serenity of the leagues. The current procedure has seven levels of decision-making, including four at the sport level and three in the administrative courts," stated Thierry Braillard.
