Global Sports Week 2022: "We lack a real sports programme at the European level" (L. Farreng, MEP)

"We lack a real sports programme at the European level. It is our duty to defend the economic model of sport but it is not the priority policy of the European Union (EU). Showing the European colours in sports competitions is the best way for sport to be identified and for the European institutions to take up the issue. The fact that a national team could display the EU colours would be very symbolic," said Laurence Farreng, Member of the European Parliament, on 10/05/2022.

The MEP spoke during Global Sports Week 2022, which is being held at the Accor Arena in Paris (FRA) from 09 to 13/05/2022. Antonio Arimany (World Triathlon), Jean-Pierre Siutat (FFBB), Ronan Evain (Football Supporters Europe) and José Manuel Araujo (Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees) were the other speakers during a debate entitled "Sport as a European performance" that was moderated by Jean-François Brocard (CDES).
