2020-21 Flyeralarm Frauen-Bundesliga: a positive season despite 2/3 of matches behind closed doors

Significant increase in sponsorship revenue and media exposure, and growing investment in staff, match organisation and management are the main findings of the 2020-21 Flyeralarm Frauen-Bundesliga Report published by the German Football Association (DFB) on 12/05/2022 (document available to download).

With an average of nearly €1.3m per club, a new record was set in terms of total revenue. The 12 clubs in the German Women's Championship (list below) generated over €15m in total revenue in 2020-21.

This is the second time that the DFB has presented all the facts and figures of the German Women's Championship, which was held under difficult conditions in 2020-21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but which was still able to go ahead uninterrupted, said the body, pointing out that "more than two thirds of the matches had to be played in empty stadiums due to the pandemic."
