NBA: Rakuten (e-commerce) extends as jersey sponsor of the Golden State Warriors (€17.4m/year)

Rakuten, a Japanese group specialised in online services (e-commerce, finance and digital content), has extended its sponsorship of the Golden State Warriors (NBA) from the 2022-23 season, announced Rakuten America, a subsidiary based in San Mateo (California, USA) on 23/05/2022.

The "multi-year partnership" will include an annual allocation similar to the original 2017-2021 agreement (option activated for 2021-22), or $20m (€17.4m). The NBA has allowed franchises to display a sponsor on their left pocket space since the 2017-18 season. Rakuten was the first jersey sponsor in the history of the Warriors, the team that features two-time MVP Stephen Curry (USA), a brand ambassador since 2019.

"Over the last five seasons, the Warriors jersey badge has been a key contributor to the explosive growth of Rakuten's US consumer brand recognition derived from broadcast, digital and social media impressions," said the Japanese firm.
