Credit Suisse Super League: Swiss football championship to expand from 10 to 12 clubs in 2023-24

The "Credit Suisse Super League" (CSSL) will go from 10 clubs in 2022-23 to 12 in 2023-24, decide the 20 clubs of the Swiss Football League "by a large majority" during the Extraordinary General Assembly organized in Bern (SUI) on 20/05/2022.

This expansion involves a transitional season in 2022-23, after which there will be no direct relegation to the dieci Challenge League (DCL, Swiss second division). Only a play-off between the last-placed CSSL club and the third-placed DCL club will be organised.

The move from 10 to 12 clubs in 2023 will be accompanied by a new competition format in three phases:
⚽️ 1 - "First Stage": the 12 clubs will first play one home and one away match against each other, i.e. 22 matchdays.
⚽️ 2 - "Second Stage": clubs ranked 1-6 (Championship Group) and 7-12 (Qualification Group) then play another home and away match against each other, i.e. 10 matchdays.
