Italy/Serie A TIM: 30% audience decline in 2021-22 compared to 2020-21 (Auditel)

The Serie A TIM posted a 30% decline in audience figures during the 2021-22 season compared to the previous season, according to data from the audience measurement institute Auditel reported by the daily Italia Oggi on 24/05/2022. A total of 169.6 million viewers watched Italian Championship matches this season on DAZN and Sky Italia, versus 242 million during the 2020-21 season.

These figures include television and Smart TV broadcasts, but do not include DAZN's audiences on other media, which are measured by the US-based institute Nielsen. AGCOM, the regulatory and competition authority for the communication industries in Italy, considered that Lega Serie A should use Auditel's audience figures for the 2021-22 season (as part of the distribution of TV rights by club).

DAZN, which broadcasts all Serie A TIM matches (including 7 out of 10 on an exclusive basis) over the 2021-2024 cycle, has 123.4 million viewers this season, versus 194 million for Sky in 2020-21 when the operator was broadcasting seven matches on an exclusive basis per matchday, according to Auditel.
