Ligue 1 Uber Eats play-offs: AS Saint-Etienne relegated to Ligue 2 BKT, AJ Auxerre promoted

AS Saint-Étienne are relegated to Ligue 2 BKT after the Ligue 1 Uber Eats play-offs against AJ Auxerre (1-1 in the first and second legs, 5-4 on penalties) at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard (42,000 capacity) on 29/05/2022.

ASSE are relegated to the second division for the fifth time in their history, ending an 18-season run in the French top flight. This led to incidents caused by the club's supporters at the end of the match (see below).

On the other hand, AJ Auxerre are returning to Ligue 1 just 10 years after their relegation (20^th at the end of the 2011-12 season). Third in the 2021-22 Ligue 2 BKT on Matchday 38, AJA won against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in the play-off 2 on 20/05/2022 (0-0, 5-4 on penalties). The club thus joins Toulouse FC (2021-22 Ligue 2 BKT champions) and AC Ajaccio (2^nd), who were promoted directly to the top flight.

• AS Saint-Étienne join FC Metz and FC Girondins de Bordeaux in Ligue 2 BKT. Both clubs were also relegated after ranking 19^th and 20^th respectively in the 2021-22 Ligue 1 Uber Eats.
