Valencia CF: president Anil Murthy (SGP) dismissed following controversial remarks

The board of directors at Valencia CF (LaLiga Santander) has decided to remove Anil Murthy from his position as president with immediate effect, announced the Spanish club on 30/05/2022. The Singaporean had held the position since July 2017.

He is accused of making controversial comments to players, fans and former managers of the Valencia (ESP) club, as well as to the local authorities, in exchanges revealed by regional sports media Superdeporte in April 2022.

"The board would like to clarify that the content of the leaked conversations between Anil Murthy and various third parties are the personal views of Anil Murthy and not of Valencia CF. Valencia CF disassociates itself from his views," said the club.

Consequences of Anil Murthy's departure: Khojama Kalimuddin (SGP), a member of the board since December 2019, will assume the role of president and manage the club on a day-to-day basis until a replacement is appointed, while Sean Bai (SGP), director of the academy, has been appointed as interim director general to oversee the sporting side.
