Premier League: an average of 39,989 spectators per game & an average fill rate of 97.7% in 2021-22

The 20 Premier League clubs posted a record average of 39,989 spectators per game during the 2021-22 season, up 3.9% versus the 2018-19 season (38,484 spectators), the last to be played in its entirety without any crowd restrictions whatsoever - and up 1.6% on 2019-20 (39,350 spectators), a year in which the last nine games were played behind closed doors due to Covid-19 (the 2020-21 season was played almost exclusively behind closed doors for the same reason). The English top flight thus passed the 15 million spectators mark for the first time in its history (15,195,647 to be precise).

The Premier League is now the leading league among the European Top 5 in terms of stadium attendance, far ahead of the Bundesliga (an average attendance of 21,038), which usually ranks ahead of the Premier League but which suffered from the capacity limits imposed by the German authorities for the majority of the 2021-22 season.
