The British pay-TV group BT Sport launched a new channel, "BT Sport Extra," on 19/09/2014. Its first broadcast was the Ligue 1 fixture between Girondins de Bordeaux and Evian TG (2-1) on 19/09/2014.

"BT Sport Extra" works as an additional channel -- on air "at selected times" -- used by BT Sport to broadcast content to which the group owns the rights, but that cannot be broadcast on the channels BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 or ESPN.

The channel can be activated by BT Sport's subscribers, with no additional cost, by selecting the channel 527 on BT TV or by pressing the red button on their remote (on the Sky Digital Satellite Platform). It will be available on Virgin Media "in the coming weeks," said the telecommunications group BT on 19/09/2014.

“Reach is at the heart of BT Sport and we are continually looking at new ways to enhance our viewers’ experience. BT Sport Extra provides sports fans with access to even more live sport action whether that’s on TV, via the red button, app or online,” said Simon Green, the head of BT Sport.
