"I personally think that in the end the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar," said Theo Zwanziger (GER), a member of the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) Executive Committee, on 22/09/2014.

"Medics say that they cannot accept responsibility with a World Cup taking place under these conditions," added the former president of the DFB (German Football Federation) from 2006 to 2012, to the German newspaper Bild. The 2022 World Cup is currently scheduled in June-July, a period during which temperatures can reach 50°C in Qatar. The host county has planned to install air-conditioning in all of the stadiums.

"They may be able to cool the stadiums but a World Cup does not take place only there," said Theo Zwanziger. "Fans from around the world will be coming and travelling in this heat," added the German leader.

"The first life-threatening case will trigger an investigation by a state prosecutor. That is not something that members of the FIFA Executive Committee want to answer for,“ concluded Theo Zwanziger
