"How can we lighten an already insane international calendar, if not by adding a competition? Someone had to think about it. Someone had to dare and UEFA has done!" declared the UNFP on 15/06/2022 about the pre-season tournament that, according to L'Équipe, the European body plans to create from 2024.

The idea would be to bring together four teams (the winner of the last Champions League and "three other very successful teams") with semi-finals, a match for third place and a final. These four gala matches would be played in mid-August, most likely in the United States, according to L'Équipe.

"This will put a stop to all those who think that the European body only wants to fill its pockets, with no regard for the health of the players, and with no regard for the spectacle or for football," said the UNFP ironically, in a press release that News Tank Football has reproduced in full below.
