Qatar 2022: Wales, Australia and Costa Rica the last of the 32 countries to qualify

Wales on 05/06, Australia on 13/06 and Costa Rica on 14/06/2022, are the last three countries to qualify for the final phase of the XXII World Cup, organised in Qatar from Monday 21/11 to Sunday 18/12/2022.

Only 29 of the 32 participants had been decided at the time of the draw for the final phase of the tournament carried out by FIFA in Doha (QAT) on 01/04/2022. There were two reasons for this: the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine started by Russia on 24/02/2022.

Scotland - Ukraine (1-3), semi-final (Path A) of the UEFA Zone playoffs, scheduled for 24/03/2022, had been postponed until 01/06/2022 to account for the war in Ukraine. Wales, who had eliminated Austria 2-1 on 24/03/2022, beat Ukraine 1-0 on 05/06/2022 and qualified for the finals (Group B).

Intercontinental playoff (Fixture 1): with a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates on 07/06/2022, Australia (AFC) have qualified (Group D) for the finals at the expense of Peru (CONMEBOL) (0-0, 5-4 on penalties, in Doha, QAT) on 13/06/2022.
