Qatar 2022: presentation of the official World Cup poster, 159 days before kick-off

"Traditional headwear worn by Qatari men being thrown in the air - something which symbolises celebration and football fandom across the Arab world" is how the official poster for the XXII World Cup is described, the work of Qatari artist, Bouthayna Al Muftah, presented during an event held at Hamad International Airport in Doha (QAT) on 15/06/2022, 159 days before the first matchday of the competition, scheduled for Monday 21/11/2022.

Bouthayna Al Muftah (b. 1987) was inspired by "the concept of collective memory". Her work focuses on "past experiences and memories" linking them to the present. The posters (eight designs have been produced) are true to this theme and speak to the history of football culture in Qatar, according to the organisers of the 2022 World Cup.

The presentation of the posters comes a day after Costa Rica qualified for the finals (1-0 victory over New Zealand in Doha), the last of the 32 countries to confirm their participation in the tournament organised by FIFA, which Qatar will host from 21/11 to 18/12/2022.
