Brazil 2014: FIFA announces €661.3m of investment into the organisation of 20th World Cup

$850m (approximately €661.3m) were invested into the organisation of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) by FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), announced the international organisation on 23/09/2014.

These investments should earn Brazil approximately €5.6bn in tax revenue, added FIFA, which quoted a study by the auditing firm Ernst & Young and by the Getulio Vargas Foundation, the Brazilian higher education institution.

FIFA said that it had made an initial payment of $20m (€15.6m) to the 2014 World Cup Legacy Trust. The total amount to be paid to this trust will be announced when the financial results of the World Cup will be closed. The investment should reach approximately $100m (€77.9m).

29,000 temporary jobs created for the World Cup

  • 15,000 jobs were created in the catering services in the stadiums.
  • 17,000 jobs were created in the hospitality areas.
  • 29,000 temporary jobs were created for the World Cup:
    • 20,000 in security
    • 3,145 drivers
    • 800 jobs for the opening and closing ceremonies
    • 4,000 jobs for the cleaning of the stadiums.
