Sky Deutschland: +14.7% turnover and +10.4% subscribers in the first half of 2014

Sky Deutschland achieved a turnover of €848.3m during the first semester of 2014 (from 01/01 to 30/06/2014), said the German pay-TV group on 23/09/2014. The company decided, on 10/04/2014, to move from a calendar year reporting period to a calendar that runs from 01/07 to 30/06.

This turnover is 14.7% higher compared to the first six months of 2013 (€739.4m). This growth can be explained by the 10.4% increase in the number of Sky Deutschland's direct subscribers: 3.813m on 30/06/2014, compared to 3.453m the previous year (3.667m on 31/12/2013). This increase corresponds to 360,000 additional direct subscribers in 12 months.

The group's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reached €36.7m on 30/06/2014, a 13.8% decrease compared to the previous year (€42.6m). The company had made a positive EBITDA of €34.7m on 31/12/2014, its first since its purchase by News Corp (now 21st Century Fox) in 2008 and its launch under the brand Sky Deutschland in February 2009.
