"The board of directors of the DFB (Deutscher Fussball-Bund, the German Football Association) will soon appoint Wolfgang Niersbach, the president of the DFB, as a candidate for the FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) Executive Committee," stated Reinhard Rauball, president of the DFL (Deutsche Fussball Liga, the German Football League) to the German newspaper Bild on 24/09/2014.

The German Theo Zwanziger, former president of the DFB, has currently been on the FIFA Executive Committee since 02/06/2011. His term ends in March 2015. Four European representatives on the FIFA Executive Committee will be elected at the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) congress in Vienna (AUT) in late March 2015.

If Wolfgang Niersbach becomes a candidate, then Theo Zwanziger would not be able to run for a second term. This is stated in the FIFA statutes: "Not more than one member from the same Association may serve on the Executive Committee simultaneously" (Article 30, paragraph 5).
