Ligue 1 and Ligue 2: €144m of purchases and €211m of sales in the 2014 summer transfer window

The 40 clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 jointly spent €144m and sold €211m in the summer transfer market in 2014 (from 01/06 to 01/09/2014), stated the LFP (Professional Football League) on 19/09/2014.

"Affected by the economic crisis and the measures of financial fair play, the French clubs have adopted a conservative approach" during the 2014 summer transfer window, stated the league. "After three years of strong growth, this year was characterised by a sharp drop in the value amount of purchases from abroad," added the LFP.

A total of 455 players from Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 were involved in transfers activities. 137 players arrived to the clubs in the first two French professional divisions, while 160 departed Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 in the 2014 summer transfer window.

A record 53 transfer operations were recorded by the LFP during the closing day of the market, 01/09/2014. This represents 12% of all transfer operations carried out during the 2014 summer market. The league explained this increase to better control of the paperless approval process.
