Tennis: prize money for Wimbledon 2022 reaches £40.35m (+9.3% compared to 2019)

The prize money for the 2022 edition of Wimbledon (referred to as The Championships), which runs from 27/06 to 10/07/2022, will be a record £40.35m (€46.9m), up 15.3% compared to 2021 (£35m) and 9.3% versus 2019 (£36.9m), according to the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) on 09/06/2022.

"It is also the first time in three years that a full capacity Championships is being staged, along with play on Middle Sunday (03/07/2022) featuring as a permanent part of the tournament schedule for the first time," said the organisers. After a 2020 edition cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Wimbledon resumed, with spectators, from 28/06 to 11/07/2021 (initially with a 50% capacity limit on all courts, then at full capacity from the quarter-finals onwards). The AELTC had, despite the cancellation of 2020, distributed a total prize money of £10m (€11.1m) to the players who would have participated in that edition of the tournament (see below).

The winners of the 2022 men's and women's singles will take home £2m (€2.3m, +17.6% vs 2021), and the singles finalists £1,050,000 (€1,221,000). The…
