Ligue 1 Uber Eats: 10 clubs under foreign ownership before John Textor's Olympique Lyonnais takeover

Ten of the 20 clubs participating in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats in 2022-23, are run by one or more foreign shareholders, according to data compiled by News Tank Football as of 21/06/2022.

Olympique Lyonnais, who announced on 20/06/2022 that they had entered into exclusive negotiations with the American company Eagle Football Holdings LLC headed by John Textor to acquire a majority stake in the club, is not yet among these ten clubs. Neither are Angers SCO, whose sale to the investment fund GFC, also based in the USA, is also underway.

If these two deals were to go through, the United States would consolidate its position as the foreign country with the largest presence in French professional football in terms of the number of clubs it controls, namely six, with the addition of Olympique de Marseille and Toulouse FC in Ligue 1, as well as Le Havre AC and SM Caen in Ligue 2 BKT, not to mention AS Saint-Étienne, which is also in the sights of American investors.
