Lega Serie A: "We need to define our business model, a fund isn't a solution in itself" (L. Casini)

"We need to define the project and the business model that the League (Lega Serie A) wants to pursue, then we can turn to funds, if it is deemed useful. A fund is not a solution in itself, it is a tool," said Lorenzo Casini, Lega Serie A president, in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport on 20/06/2022.

The Italian League had approved, on 19/11/2020, the offer from a consortium composed of CVC Capital Partners, a Luxembourg fund, the American fund Advent and the Italian public fund FSI (Fondo Strategico Italiano), to enter the capital of a media company run by the Italian League with a 10% stake, for a sum of €1.7bn, however the agreement was ultimately not successful.

"We have to create a media company and develop the structure. The league has a few dozen employees, the Spanish league has ten times that number. With a little effort, the League could become a real support for the clubs in the relationship with the institutions and technical support on issues such as infrastructure and marketing," said Casini.
