Qatar 2022: Douyin (TikTok) acquires streaming rights in China

The Chinese digital media group Douyin has acquired the streaming rights to the 2022 World Cup for China, under sublicense from China Media Group (CMG), the country's leading state-owned media group and parent company of the state-owned broadcasting group CCTV, announced the two groups on 21/06/2022.

The Douyin group brings together various entities, including the Chinese social network TikTok, the video platform Xigua and the news platform Toutiao. Douyin has not yet communicated how the rights will be used, but says that all its platforms have been authorised "to use the rights".

CCTV had acquired the rights to broadcast the entire 2022 World Cup in China exclusively, from Infront on 01/11/2027.
