LaLiga Santander: broadcasting contract with Super Sports Media in China terminated

LaLiga Santander has terminated its broadcasting contract with Chinese company Super Sports Media (owned by Chinese multinational sports and entertainment company Wuhan DDMC), which held the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Spanish league until 2028-29, in June 2022.

"In view of the continuing situation of non-payment and, therefore, non-compliance with the conditions agreed between both parties, LaLiga announces the termination of the contractual relationship with Super Sports Media for audiovisual rights in China. In addition to the termination of the contract, which bound both parties until the end of the 2028-29 season, LaLiga has initiated the relevant legal actions in order to safeguard the interests of the competition," confirmed LaLiga to News Tank Football on 27/06/2022.

Super Sports Media has allegedly failed to pay a €45m payment for the 2021-22 season, which was due on 20/01/2022. LaLiga is demanding €105m in compensation, in addition to the termination of the broadcasting agreement.
