Social Media: +3.1 million followers for Real Madrid following their Champions League victory

Real Madrid CF's (LaLiga Santander) victory in the 2021-22 Champions League final (1-0 versus Liverpool FC on 28/05/2022 at the Stade de France) generated 136 million interactions and enabled the Madrid club to gain 1.7 million followers over the weekend (27-29/05/2022) on the main social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube), according to data from the Spanish-American specialised company Blinkfire Analytics, relayed by the club on 28/06/2022. The club also gained an additional 1.4 million followers on TikTok over the period.

"This figure (excluding TikTok) is considerably higher than that achieved by the previous winners of the competition: Chelsea FC (2021), FC Bayern Munich (2020) and Liverpool (2019)," explained the Spanish club. In terms of the number of followers, the previous record was also held by Real when they won in 2018 (+898,000 cumulative followers). The same applies to the number of interactions: no team had performed better since Madrid's last victory, which generated 78 million interactions.
