Premier League: +23.9m fans for Manchester United on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in 2021-22

The 20 clubs that participated in the 2021-22 Premier League have a total of 655.7 million fans on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as of 01/07/2022, up 77.3 million from 01/08/2021, according to data compiled by News Tank Football. The Premier League is the most popular European Top 5 league on these three social networks combined, ahead of LaLiga Santander and Serie A TIM, with an average of 32.8 million fans per club.

Manchester United FC is the most followed club with over 165.4 million fans. The club gained 24 million additional followers (+17.0%) over the entire season, 70.5% of which were on Instagram alone. This increase is mainly due to the arrival of Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus FC (Serie A TIM) on 31/08/2021. The Mancunian club posted the third strongest growth among the European Top 5, behind Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 Uber Eats, +29 million followers) and Real Madrid CF (LaLiga, +25.4 million).
