The Greek government has postponed all professional domestic sports matches for the weekend of 03/10 to 05/10/2014 after a football supporter died following stadium violence in the third division, the government announced on 29/09/2014.

Kostas Katsoulis, 46 years old, died in hospital on 29/09/2014 from a brain haemorrhage. Katsoulis, a supporter of Piraeus-based club Ethnikos, was attacked along with other fans by approximately 30 Irodotos home supporters during a Greek third division match in Heraklion, Crete on 14/09/2014. Three people have been arrested.

"A man today lost a two-week battle for his life simply because he went to see his favourite team," stated Giannis Andrianos, the Greek Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports. "His death should be the last in the long line of mindless violence which has plagued sports competitions here."

The decision postpones all Super League (Greek first division) football matches, fixtures in the third division football league, as well as men's and women's basketball contests and handball matches.
