Spain: 3,969,823 subscribers to pay-TV on 31/03/2014, an increase of 1.09% year on year

Spain has 3,969,823 subscribers to pay-TV services at the end of the first quarter 2014 (from 1/1 to 31/03/2014), said the CMNC (Spain's National Commission of Markets and Competition) quarterly report, published on 22/09/2014. This represents a slight increase of 1.09% year on year (3,926,844 subscribers on 31/03/2013).

DTS (Canal+ Spain, formerly Digital+), whose capital is now 100% owned by the telecom operator Telefonica since 04/07/2014, remains the largest pay-TV group in Spain, with 1,661,386 subscribers in the first quarter 2014 (42% of the total subscribers in Spain), down 2.55% year on year (1,704,935 subscribers on 31/03/2013). The number of DTS subscribers nevertheless is increasing steadily since the second quarter 2013 (1,646,172 subscribers).

DTS recorded annual sales of €288.3m in the first quarter 2014, 70% of the value of the Spanish pay-TV market (€409.3m in revenues recorded by Spanish pay-TV operators between 01/ 01 and 31/03/2014).
