LaLiga: Banco Santander will not extend as title sponsor of the 1^st and 2^nd divisions beyond 2022-23

Spanish banking group Banco Santander will not extend as title sponsor of LaLiga men's championships (LaLiga Santander/LaLiga SmartBank) beyond the 2022-23 season, announced the Spanish League on 11/07/2022. "LaLiga will announce new developments regarding the competition's naming rights from the 2023-24 season onwards in the coming weeks."

Banco Santander had initially become the title sponsor of LaLiga's top two men's divisions for three seasons (2016-2019), with an additional year as an option (activated for 2019-20), on 21/07/2016. This agreement was extended for the 2020-21 season on 14/03/2019, and then for two additional seasons (2021-2023) on 07/04/2021. Since 2020-21, the total value of the partnership has been estimated to be worth €20m per year.

"The change, which will take effect from the 2023-24 campaign onwards, is the result of a joint decision by both organisations to explore new ways of collaboration, both together and with third parties," explained LaLiga.
