Bundesliga: record expenditures (€291m) during the 2014 summer transfer market

The 18 Bundesliga clubs spent a record of €291m during the 2014 summer transfer market (01/07 to 09/01/2014), up nearly 11% from the 2013 summer transfer market (€262.7m), which was the previous record.

Transfer revenues of the Bundesliga clubs reach €198.3m in the summer of 2014, down 4.2% from the record set in 2013 (€207m). However, 2014 is the second best year for summer transfer revenues in the Bundesliga, behind 2013.

  • Foreign leagues are the primary market in the Bundesliga, accounting for 51.2% of transfer revenues (€101.6m) and 56.7% of transfer expenditures (€164.9m). However, looking at the championships individually, the Bundesliga is the primary source and the primary destination of transfers: German elite clubs conducted €92.5m of business with each other, or 46.6% of revenues and 31.8% of transfer spending.
  • The overall transfer balance in the Bundesliga is - €92.7m for the summer of 2014.
