Spain: Orange renews its distribution agreement (LaLiga Santander & European Cups) with Telefonica

The Spanish subsidiary of the French telecommunications group Orange has renewed its distribution agreement with Telefonica (telecoms) to carry its football channels for the 2022-23 season, on 12/07/2022. The value of the deal has not been communicated, but it was in the region of €300m per year over the previous three seasons, according to Spanish media.

• Telefonica notably owns the Spanish broadcasting rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League for €975m or €325m per season (2021-2024 cycle).
• The Spanish telecommunications operator also holds the rights to five LaLiga Santander games per matchday on 35 of the 38 matchdays (the other five matches are broadcast by DAZN), as well as three matchdays on an exclusive basis per season (except for one free-to-air match co-broadcast with Mediapro) over the 2022-2027 cycle, for a total of €4.95bn, or an average of €990m per season, paid with DAZN.
