NBA: a record turnover of $10bn (€9.3bn) in 2021-22

For the first time ever the National Basketball Association has posted a turnover exceeding $10bn (€9.3bn, as of 31/05/2022) following the end of the 2021-22 season, an annual result up by more than 55% compared to 2020-21 ($6.4bn/€5.2bn as of 31/05/2021), according to American news agency Associated Press on 13/07/2022.

Revenues from basketball activities, those of the league's 30 franchises, reached a record $8.9bn (€8.2bn). $2bn (€1.85bn) of the revenue came from NBA media rights while $1.6bn (€1.48bn) was generated from sponsorship revenue.

"The numbers did surprise me to a certain degree because it exceeded projections, and the projections represent where we think our business is going. I think it's quite remarkable from where we came two and a half years ago," said Adam Silver, commissioner of the NBA, after the NBA's board of governors meeting on 12/07/2022.
