Chile have qualified for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France (08/09 to 28/10/2023) following their 31-29 victory in the second leg of the play-off versus the United States (52-51 on aggregate, 22-21 for the Americans in the first leg in Santiago, Chile) in Glendale (California, USA) on 16/07/2022.

Chile will thus play in their first ever Rugby World Cup. The Chilean team joins Group D, composed of England, Argentina, Japan and Samoa. 18 of the 20 participating teams have therefore been determined as of 16/07/2022.

The winner of the Tonga - Hong Kong play-off match, played in Australia on 23/07/2022, will qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup and will join Group B (South Africa, Scotland, Ireland and Romania). The loser of this Asia/Pacific play-off will go on to an intercontinental tournament involving the USA, Kenya and Portugal in November 2022. The winner of this tournament will earn the final qualifying spot for the World Cup finals in France and join Group C (Australia, Fiji, Georgia and Wales).

  • Group A: France, Italy, Namibia, New Zealand and Uruguay.
