United Kingdom: BT Sport/Eurosport UK joint venture approved by the Competition & Markets Authority

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has approved the agreement between media and entertainment conglomerate Warner Bros. Discovery and British telecommunications operator BT Group, which concerns the creation of the BT Sport/Eurosport UK joint venture in the UK and Ireland, announced Warner Bros. Discovery on 22/07/2022.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had opened an investigation into the deal on 01/06/2022, to determine whether the merger would "result in the creation of a relevant merger situation under the merger provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002 and, if so, whether the creation of that situation may be expected to result, in a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services."
