Manchester City FC: a connected scarf that captures fans' physical and emotional data

Cisco, an American company specialised in computer servers, has activated its partnership with Manchester City FC (Premier League) and created a connected scarf that can record the emotions and movements of fans during a match, announced the club on 27/07/2022.

An "EmotiBit" biosensor placed in the fabric of the scarf, close to the neck, records various physical and emotional data of the person wearing the scarf. Several micro sensors are used to collect the following data:
• a PPG (photoplethysmogram) sensor provides information on heart rate and its variations, respiration, oxygen saturation and hydration;
• an EDA (electrodermal activity) sensor analyses nervous system responses, including cognitive and emotional stimulation;
• an accelerometer tracks movement, gestures, body rotation and activity during the match;
• a sensor allows the body temperature to be measured, in order to evaluate emotional reactions in particular.
