2014 summer transfer window: Barça, Real and Atlético comprise 81% of the spending from La Liga

The 20 clubs in La Liga BBVA, the Spanish first division, accumulated €531.1m in revenues (new record) and €480.49m of expenditures in the 2014 summer transfer market (from 01/07 to 01/09 2014), totaling a positive balance of €50.61m. This is the third consecutive year in which La Liga BBVA made a surplus in the summer market after 2012 (€49.9m) and 2013 (€100.5m, record surplus).

The transfer market in La Liga was primarily driven by three clubs: FC Barcelona (€157m in expenditures, €80.8m in revenues), Real Madrid (€122.5m in expenditures, €114m in revenues) and Atlético Madrid (€110.1m in expenditures, €88m in revenues). These three clubs constitute 81% of the expenditures and 53% of the transfer revenues from the Spanish first division. La Liga generated 75% its expenditures and 78% of its revenues from transfers with foreign leagues.
