FC Barcelona: club partner Socios.com (crypto), acquires 24.5% of Barça Studios for €100m

Socios.com, a cryptocurrency blockchain platform owned by ChiliZ and Mediarex Sports & Entertainment, has acquired 24.5% of Barça Studios for €100m, announced FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) on 01/08/2022. The deal values the club's subsidiary dedicated to the creation, production and marketing of its audiovisual and digital offer at just over €400m.

In addition to providing the cash that Barça, which is heavily in debt, needs (see below), this deal should enable the Catalan club "to accelerate its audiovisual, blockchain, NFT and Web.3 strategy." Socios.com became a global partner of FC Barcelona on 13/02/2020 with the aim, among others, of developing "Barça Fan Tokens" (see further reading).

"The sale has been made in accordance with the authorisation of the general assembly of FC Barcelona members held last 23/10/2021," explained the club.
