China: LaLiga Plus ("freemium" app) to show LaLiga Santander & LaLiga SmartBank matches from 2022-23

LaLiga has launched a new "freemium" app, LaLiga Plus, in China to broadcast LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank matches from the 2022-23 season onwards, as part of a six-year agreement with Chinese media and technology company Streamline, announced the Spanish league on 03/08/2022.

LaLiga Plus "will offer different packages to the fans through a freemium model combining free and paid matches. Fans will be able to enjoy all 380 matches of LaLiga Santander and for the first time in China, all 462 matches and promotion play-offs of LaLiga Smartbank will be available to the Chinese fans as well. With this launch, LaLiga is the first among the major leagues to have a DTC solution in the country," explained LaLiga.

LaLiga Santander terminated its broadcasting contract with Chinese company Super Sports Media (owned by Chinese multinational sports and entertainment company Wuhan DDMC), which held the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Spanish league until 2028-29, in June 2022.
