France/Qatar 2022: National Assembly bill for a France-Qatar partnership on security adopted

The bill authorising the approval of the agreement between the French and Qatari governments "to establish a partnership for the security of the 2022 World Cup" has been adopted by the National Assembly at first reading on 04/08/2022. The Senate had already decided in favor of this bill, which was subject to an accelerated procedure (one reading per chamber), on 15/02/2022.

This intergovernmental agreement was signed in Doha (QAT) on 05/03/2021. "In order to host this major popular event, Qatar has made it a priority to seek the support of States with which it has long-standing partnerships in the security field: these include our country, the United States and the United Kingdom. The partnership provided for in this agreement will combine technical support and operational assistance, including the deployment of personnel and equipment as well as support in the field of aviation security and anti-drone warfare. With this agreement, France will have the means to effectively support Qatar in hosting this event in the best possible conditions," said Amélia Lakrafi, reporting on behalf…
