The FA / clubs: any change of logo or colors now subject to the approval of supporters

The Football Association "has introduced new rules to help protect the heritage of football clubs in England" from the 2022-23 season, announced the body on 05/08/2022.

Every club in the Premier League, EFL (Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two), National League (fifth division), Barclays Women's Super League (women's first division) and Barclays Women's Championship (women's second division) will now have to "undertake a thorough and extensive consultation process with supporters" if they wish to substantially change their crest (or logo) or the colours of their home shirt, or face being prevented from doing so by The FA.

"The aim of the new rules is to put supporters at the heart of the decision-making process regarding these important club heritage matters," said the Federation, whose decision supports of one of the recommendations of the independent report on "Fan-Led Review of Football Governance: securing the game's future" commissioned by the UK Department of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and published on 24/11/2021.
