CAF: launch of the Africa Super League in August 2023, "Superbowl Africa" final in May 2024

The first edition of the Africa Super League will be organised from August 2023 to May 2024, said Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), at the body's 44th general assembly, held in Arusha (Tanzania) in the presence of Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, on 10/08/2022.

24 teams from 16 African countries will participate in this new competition for a total of 197 matches and a prize money of $100m (€97.4m). The final is described as the "Superbowl of Africa" and the winning team will recieve $11.5m (€11.2m).

"The Africa Super League is one of the most exciting developments in the history of African football and the objective in terms of what we are trying to achieve is very clear, number one is to make sure African club football is world class and competes with the best in the world. This about the future of African football, this is about African taking charge of its future. To do this, we need money," said the president of CAF.
