Bundesliga: Wirsol installs solar panels on the parking lots of 1899 Hoffenheim's stadium

The German solar energy company Wirsol has installed 10,000 m2 of solar panels on the stadium car parks of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (Bundesliga), the company revealed on 06/10/2014. The installation cost €1.6m. It is supported by the operating company of the stadium, which belongs to the club. The solar panels will generate approximately 1.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, or about a third of the annual electricity consumption of the enclosure.

The stadium opened in 2009, and has been named Wirsol Rhein-Neckar Arena (capacity 30,000) since 2011. Wirsol holds the naming rights to the stadium until the end of the 2015-16 season. The contract is valued at €1.2m per year.
