Deloitte: European football market represented €27.6bn in revenue in 2020-21 (+9.5%)

The European football market experienced a 9.5% increase in revenue to €27.6bn in the 2020-21 season (€25.2bn in 2019-20), growth driven by UEFA Euro 2020 and deferred revenue from the 2019-20 season, despite a near-total loss of matchday revenues, according to the 2022 edition of the Sports Business Group's "Annual Review of Football Finance" by Deloitte UK (audit and advisory firm), published on 18/08/2022 (document available to download).

"In 2020-21 the 'big five' European leagues (98 clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga Santander, Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 Uber Eats) generated €15.6bn in aggregate revenue (excluding transfers), up 3% relative to the prior season, but significantly below revenues observed prior to Covid-19 (€17.0bn in 2018-19)," explains the report, which nevertheless acknowledges "a significant recovery in revenue terms" and a return "to pre-Covid revenue levels projected to be achieved in 2021-22" with a record of €18.6bn even anticipated for 2022-23.
