Emiliano Sala: "Transfer completed prior to his death" rules CAS in a decision welcomed by FC Nantes

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the appeal filed by Cardiff City FC (Sky Bet Championship) against FC Nantes (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) in relation to the decision issued by the Bureau of the FIFA Players' Status Committee on 25/09/2019 and confirms that the transfer of Emiliano Sala had been fully completed prior to his death," announced the CAS on 26/08/2022.

Argentine forward Emiliano Sala had been transferred for €17m (excluding bonuses) from FC Nantes to Cardiff City FC, then in the Premier League, on 19/01/2019. He was reported missing on Monday 21/01/2019 while travelling from Nantes to Cardiff in a small private plane. The wreckage of the single-engine plane was located at the bottom of the English Channel on 03/02/2019, with the player on board, according to the British police on 07/02/2019. The body was recovered on 08 and the funeral of the Argentine took place in his country on 16/02/2019.
