Germany: launch of HBL TV (OTT platform) to broadcast the Handball-Bundesliga in untapped markets

The Handball-Bundesliga (the organising body of the German men's first and second divisions) is launching, in collaboration with wizid.sport (a subsidiary of the TicketPAY company which manages, among other things, the ticketing of Bundesliga handball events), its own international streaming platform named "HBL TV" to broadcast Liqui Moly HBL (men's D1) and 2.HBL (men's D2) matches in territories where no broadcasting agreement exists, announced the league on 25/08/2022.

"In addition to continuing to expand its existing successful international licence partnerships and media networks, the HBL GmbH will also be looking to inspire and appeal to new fans of the sport in countries where live Bundesliga matches had previously not been available. These include the European markets of Spain and Portugal, as well as markets in Southeast Asia (China, Japan) or Africa (Egypt, Tunisia)," explained the Handball-Bundesliga.

The platform will be available via a monthly subscription of €3.99 or an annual subscription of €39.99. Only one Liqui Moly HBL game per matchday will have English commentary…
